Ward Identities for Broken Scale Invariance in theHomogeneous Electron Gas,Their Large N Truncation, andConvergence of the 1/N Expansion

I derive an exact hierarchy of equations for correlation functions of the plasmon field in the HEG and show how it truncates to closed equations for a finite number of correlators at large N. The simplest truncation is a closed equation for the density density correlator. If there is time I will also outline recent results obtained with B Zhang showing that the 1/N expansion of the HEG converges and that it does not have a Wigner Crystal phase for some finite range of large N. The convergence result is consistent with recent Monte Carlo summations of Feynman diagrams performed by K. Haule and collaborators. As a consequence, the truncated equation for the two point function might give a reasonably accurate calculation of the density functional for finite values of N, within the radius of convergence.
