After a brief review of high p_t particle/jet production in high energy collisions in the collinear factorization formalism we introduce the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) effective theory of QCD at small Bjorken x. We argue that CGC formalism is more appropriate for low p_t particle production in high energy hadronic and heavy ion collisions such as those at RHIC and the LHC where small Bjorken x regime of QCD is probed. We then propose a new approach that aims to unify the two formalisms by incorporating high p_t physics into Color Glass Condensate formalism. The first steps taken in this direction and its relevance for particle production in heavy ion collisions at RHIC and the LHC will be discussed.
