Two Tales of Black Holes and Anisotropies

In this 2-in-1 talk, I will first describe primordial black holes as an intriguing dark matter candidate, and how one can search for their signatures in anisotropies of the cosmic microwave background (CMB), as well as in kilohertz gravitational-wave events detectable by LIGO. The second half of the talk will focus on optimal search strategies for anisotropy in the nanohertz stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB), sourced by supermassive black hole binaries, which ought to be detected by pulsar timing arrays in the next few years.

Extra Info: Astrophysics seminars are generally held at 1:30 PM on Thursdays in Serin Physics room W330, with refreshments to follow in room W332. Departmental colloquia are at 11:00 AM on Wednesdays in Serin Physics room W330. Special dates and/or times are noted in the description.
