Searching for muon to electron conversion: The Mu2e experiment at Fermilab

Date and Time: Friday, October 16, 2020, 04:00pm -
Location: Zoom

Speaker: Richie Bonventre, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

Abstract: The Mu2e experiment will search for the charged-lepton flavor violating (CLFV) neutrino-less conversion of a negative muon into an electron in the field of a nucleus, reaching a 90% C.L. limit of 8x10^-17 on R_ue. This sensitivity is a four-orders of magnitude improvement over previous experiments, and allows Mu2e to probe new physics at mass scales up to 10^4 TeV, far beyond the direct reach of colliders. Mu2e is currently under construction at Fermilab, and expects to begin data taking in 2023. In this talk I will present the current status of the experiment as well as the results and impact of prototype data analyses.
