First Results from the Muon g-2 Experiment

Abstract: Magnetic moments have served as important signposts of new physics for much of the last century. A tantalizing tension between the experimental measurement of the muon magnetic moment carried out at Brookhaven and the prediction from the Standard Model has persisted for more than 20 years. We have mounted a new experimental effort at Fermilab to repeat the measurement with higher statistics and better control of systematics in order to confirm or refute the earlier result. In this talk, I will report the first results of this experiment from the first year of data taking in 2018, with a sensitivity similar to the final Brookhaven result.
