Abstract: I will remark from my personal experience on some questions that attracted the curiosity of my generation of researchers in the field of high energy physics as well as my own. I will describe some of the things learned, some of the challenges and give a taste of some of the magic. A few words will be added on the crossroads that CERN faces.
