Blakesley Burkhart has been named a 2020 Packard Fellow.
As described by the Packard Foundation, the Packard Fellowships in Science and Engineering are among the nation's largest nongovernmental fellowships, designed to allow maximum flexibility in how the funding is used. Since 1988, this program has supported the blue-sky thinking of scientists and engineers with the belief that their research over time will lead to new discoveries that improve people's lives and enhance our understanding of the universe.
Blakesley is among an elite group of only 20 individuals around the country receiving 2020 Packard Fellowships. The Fellowship comes with a sizable quantity of unrestricted research funds for a period of 5 years. Blakesley joins our colleague Emil Yuzbashyan who was awarded a Packard Fellowship in 2007. Blakesley and Emil are the only Packard Fellowships ever awarded to Rutgers faculty, and both are in Physics & Astronomy!
This is a rare achievement for our new astrophysicist and we couldn't be happier.
